Iron Byron
The Swing Consistency You Want
Golf is a sport, golf is a hobby, golf is a recreational past time; whatever you call golf - it definitely has more gimmicks, goodies, and products that guarantee to fix than any other sport, hobby, or recreation. In a world of ever improving equipment through technology and new break throughs comes a machine to consistently test the equipment accurately. Meet Iron Byron - the golf swing machine.
Iron Byron is a golf ball and golf club testing device modeled after the gold swing of Byron Nelson. The idea behind Iron Byron is that the machine will produce a consistent golf swing each and everytime. What does this consistent golf swing buy you? The ability to rate golf balls and golf clubs (sticks) against each other to truly determine the longest flying ball and the furthest launching driver.
Golf is a game in which every product states to improve your game, increase your drives, straighten your slice, and iomprove your score. Iron Byron can help put those claims to the test through consistent and accurate swings.
A golf swing is a delicate process, timing must be accurate, the swing plain must be perfect, and the tempo must be right. This process is nearly impossible for a human to replicate consistently and repeatably.
Today, more than testing claims of distance for golf balls, Iron Byron is used by the United States Golf Association to test golf clubs and golf balls for conformity to standards. Iron Byron can be adjusted to repeat the same swing 10,000 times; which is very useful for comparing relative products. Iron Byron's swing is so consistent that the USGA claims it must replace the center line of the test fairway every two years because of the turf damage caused by golf balls landing in the same spot over and over and over again, between 1000 and 2000 times per day during the summer months.
However, the day of glory has expired for Iron Byron, he is being replaced as the USGA has made a decision to move their testings from outdoors to indoors using a new process.
